Description
Masuzo Dinerals is the main antagonist of the film. He is the wealthy and authoritarian president of Kaneari Electric, a powerful energy corporation that dominates the future city of Neotokio. After a meteorite collision plunges the Earth into a permanent impact winter, Dinerals seizes control by providing the only reliable power supply, effectively becoming the dictator of Japan in a corporatocratic society. He ruthlessly eliminates competition, forcing other businesses to close, which leads to the unemployment and decline of many residents, including the older versions of Shinnosuke's parents.
Dinerals is driven by an insatiable desire for total control and absolute authority. He cannot tolerate defiance or disobedience, viewing people as tools to be managed. This obsessive need for power extends to his family; he treats his daughter Tamiko as a bargaining chip, arranging a political marriage with the adult Kazama to further his own ambitions. When the adult Shinnosuke, who once worked for him, quits his job with a blunt refusal to be a typical salaryman, Dinerals takes it as a personal insult and retaliates by having Shinnosuke petrified into stone. He then uses this as leverage to force Tamiko into compliance.
In the story, Dinerals serves as the primary obstacle. He dispatches several antagonists, including a group of bride candidates known as the Bride Corps, to capture Shinnosuke and his friends. He also pilots a giant robot in the climactic confrontation. His role is to embody the oppressive, monopolistic dystopia that the heroes must overthrow.
Key relationships include his strained connection with his daughter Tamiko, who rebels against his control and sides with Shinnosuke. He also has a subordinate relationship with the adult Kazama, whom he initially tries to use as a pawn. His conflict with the adult Shinnosuke stems from Shinnosuke's refusal to submit to his authority, which Dinerals finds unacceptable.
Throughout the film, Dinerals shows little to no development; he remains a static figure of greed and tyranny until his downfall. His notable abilities are primarily political and technological: he commands vast corporate resources, an army of security forces and robots, and a petrification ray. He also has access to advanced energy technology that he uses to maintain his monopoly. Ultimately, his regime collapses when Shinnosuke and his friends successfully revive the adult Shinnosuke, combine their "obaka power" to dispel the impact winter, and the adult Himawari, revealed to be a police officer, arrests him on multiple charges.
