Description
Genta Umemori, who transforms into Shinken Gold, is a character who appears in the World of Shinkenger arc within the series Kamen Rider Decade. In his civilian life, Genta is a sushi chef who operates his own mobile food stall, Gold Zushi, and his primary identity is a childhood friend and ally of Takeru Shiba, the lord of the Shiba Clan. The two share a deep bond from their youth, centered on a promise Genta made to help Takeru become a samurai, a promise that ultimately drives his entire journey.
Genta’s personality stands in stark contrast to the reserved and stoic Takeru, as he is hyperactive, expressive, and incredibly enthusiastic. He brings a bright and often comedic energy to any situation, frequently interrupting serious moments with his non-stop talking and devising spontaneous after-battle rituals. His passion for sushi is matched only by his dedication to his friends, and he possesses a naturally kind and generous heart, often offering his sushi creations to his teammates for free.
His primary motivation stems directly from the promise made to Takeru in their childhood. Though he was not from a samurai family and was forbidden from official training, Takeru entrusted him with a mystical item called the Ika Disk. This act of faith inspired Genta to forge his own path as a warrior, training in swordsmanship and developing his own unique power to fulfill his vow.
In the story of Kamen Rider Decade, Genta plays a crucial role as the protector of a valuable artifact, the Ika Origami. When the dimensional-hopping thief Daiki Kaito, also known as Kamen Rider Diend, steals the item, Genta pursues him relentlessly. This chase leads to a direct confrontation, where Genta transforms into Shinken Gold and battles against the Kamen Riders summoned by Diend. Despite being briefly incapacitated, he proves to be a formidable fighter, even managing to temporarily disarm Daiki and steal his Diendriver. Throughout the two-part arc, Genta continues his pursuit of Daiki while also engaging with the visiting Kamen Rider Decade, initially mistaking him for an ally of the thief. He remains a steadfast ally to his own team, the Shinkengers, and is instrumental in the final battle to defeat the corrupted Ayakashi, Chinomanako.
His key relationships are centered on his bond with Takeru, his childhood friend and liege, whose trust is the most important thing to him. He also forms a strong friendship with Chiaki, Shinken Green, who is one of the few people who calls him by the nickname Gen-chan. His role as the team's genius innovator also creates a unique dynamic with the other Shinkengers, who rely on his inventions. His relationship with the Kamen Rider Decade is one of initial suspicion that evolves into a temporary alliance against a common enemy.
While his role in the Decade crossover is brief, Genta does not undergo significant personal development within these episodes, instead appearing as a fully realized character. His development is more extensively portrayed in his native series, Samurai Sentai Shinkenger, where he struggles to prove his worth as an unofficial samurai and ultimately overcomes the challenge of being dismissed from the team before being reinstated for the final battle.
As a warrior, Genta is exceptionally gifted, possessing a powerful and unique ability he calls Electronic Modikara, a technological adaptation of the traditional mystical writing used by the Shinkengers. Because he cannot write the required calligraphy, he uses his Sushi Changer, a specialized mobile phone, to type commands. This genius-level talent allows him to create new weapons and mecha that are vital to the team. As Shinken Gold, the Samurai of Light, he wields a unique sword called the Sakanamaru in a fast-paced, unorthodox style, often using a reverse grip. His signature finisher is a rapid series of slashes known as the Hundred Fillets. He also wields exploding chopsticks as projectile weapons and commands squid and lobster-themed mecha support units, which he can also deploy in battle.
