Description
Abdul Hakim is a character who appears in the original Cowboy Bebop anime series. He serves as the primary antagonist of the episode "Stray Dog Strut," functioning as a bounty target for the main characters Spike Spiegel and Jet Black. Hakim is a tall man with a bushy black afro, black eyes, and a goatee. His typical attire consists of a brown vest worn over a white collared shirt and a red tee, paired with light-brown pants and brown boots. His physical stature is notably imposing, and his appearance, name, and fighting style were modeled after the famous NBA star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

In terms of personality, Abdul Hakim is defined by an almost relentless persistence. He never gives up on his objective and never seems to tire out in his pursuit. However, his comical failure to successfully capture a short-legged corgi, despite his considerable size and determination, ultimately casts him in the role of a comic relief villain by the end of the episode. His motivations are purely criminal; he is a serial pet thief who steals valuable animals to sell them to collectors for a profit. His specific crime that draws the attention of the Bebop crew is the theft of a "data dog" from a group of scientists who were conducting illegal experiments. To evade capture after this heist, Hakim undergoes plastic surgery to alter his facial appearance, though his distinctive height and build remain unchanged.

Hakim's role in the story is to be the catalyst for the introduction of Ein, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi who becomes a permanent resident of the spaceship Bebop. While tracking Hakim for his substantial bounty of 8 million woolongs, Spike and Jet become entangled in the chase for the stolen dog. Hakim does not have any significant relationships with other characters. He interacts with the Bebop crew solely as a bounty head and has transactional, often violent, encounters with others, such as the scientists he steals from and the doctors he refuses to pay for his surgery. He also briefly interacts with a young street urchin who steals Ein's carrying case from him, leading to a chain of events that brings the dog into the Bebop crew's orbit.

The development of Abdul Hakim's story arc is minimal, as he is a one-episode character. His narrative concludes when, during a chaotic chase involving Spike, the stolen corgi Ein, and the pursuing scientists, he is hit by the scientists' truck and crashes directly into an ISSP police precinct. He and the scientists are all arrested on the spot, meaning the Bebop crew fails to collect the bounty on his head. Despite his lack of screen time, his actions have a lasting impact on the series by introducing Ein. Regarding abilities, Hakim is a capable fighter, displaying skill in hand-to-hand combat. He is proficient enough to easily disarm and defeat several armed scientists. In his confrontation with Spike Spiegel, he proves to be a formidable opponent, even managing to kick the bounty hunter into a large sign. In addition to his martial arts skills, he carries a gun.
