Description
Katerina Solensan is a supporting character who appears in the first episode of the anime series, in a session titled "Asteroid Blues". She is the wife and accomplice of Asimov Solensan, a man on the run from a criminal syndicate.
Her background is defined by a powerful dream. She has always longed to escape her life on the asteroid Tijuana and move to Mars, believing it to be a place where she could live well and be happy. This desire drives her actions, leading her to help Asimov steal a dangerous performance-enhancing drug called Bloody Eye from the syndicate. To transport the valuable vials, she hides them under her dress, creating the illusion that she is pregnant. Her personality is one of quiet support for her husband, but beneath that loyalty lies a growing despair. While she appears as a devoted partner, she is deeply troubled by Asimov's increasing reliance on the drug they are selling. Despite the dangerous life of a fugitive, she is portrayed as a woman with a pure, if naive, wish for a future with the man she loves, rather than a cynical criminal. She is known to be a capable shot with a firearm.
Within the story, Katerina is a tragic figure, the emotional core of the episode. Her fate serves as a warning about the impossibility of escaping a destructive past. She and Asimov are the bounty targets for the main characters, Spike Spiegel and Jet Black. Her role is to become entangled with Spike, who sees a reflection of his own past in her desperate situation. She has a brief but significant encounter with Spike near a gas station, where they have a friendly conversation and she becomes briefly taken with him before learning he is a bounty hunter looking for her husband. This moment of connection further complicates the already tense chase.
Her most important relationship is, of course, with her husband, Asimov Solensan. She stands by him as his accomplice and lover, but the relationship deteriorates under the pressure of their flight and his drug use. In a moment of crisis, she realizes that Asimov cares more about the drugs she is carrying than her own safety, leading to a final, desperate act. Katerina's character development is a sharp, tragic arc. She begins as a hopeful woman dreaming of Mars, believing she and Asimov can make a new life with their stolen fortune. As the episode progresses, and Asimov's sanity unravels from Bloody Eye, she loses hope. In the climax, as Asimov, lost in a psychotic rage, pilots their ship into a police blockade, Katerina makes a final, heart-wrenching decision. She kills Asimov with her own hands, preventing him from causing more destruction. With her dream shattered and nothing left, she resigns herself to her fate and dies when their ship is shot down by police, drifting into the void of space. Her last word is a simple "Adios".
As for notable abilities, Katerina is a skilled sharpshooter, capable of using a gun effectively during the shootouts that plague her escape.
