Description
Jabi mentors Bisco Akaboshi as a father figure, rigorously training him in the Mushroom Keeper arts through harsh methods that forge Bisco into a formidable fighter. Afflicted by advanced rust disease reaching his lungs, Jabi faces limited time. Early on, he accompanies Bisco toward the Gunma border. When their crossing plan fails, Bisco propels them over the wall using a king trumpet mushroom. Resting near Imihama, Jabi attempts to discuss his worsening condition, but Bisco refuses to listen. During an assault by Tirol in an Escargot fighter, Jabi shields Bisco with his body, sustaining critical wounds.

Bisco transports Jabi to Imihama for treatment, entrusting him to Milo Nekoyanagi while drawing away pursuers. Revived by Milo, Jabi discloses vital truths: Mushroom Keepers purify rust via mushrooms rather than spreading it, and shares legends of the Rust Eater mushroom capable of consuming rust from living beings. Acknowledging his injuries prevent further travel, Jabi urges Bisco to partner with Milo for medicine synthesis. Bisco reluctantly agrees. Jabi then engineers a diversion, confronting pursuers to enable Bisco and Milo’s escape.

Later captured by Kurokawa alongside Pawoo Nekoyanagi, Jabi is imprisoned at Shimabuki Base. Using mushroom-growing abilities, he escapes his cell, frees Pawoo, and directs her to flee while he remains to sabotage the base. He intervenes in Bisco and Milo’s battle against Kurokawa, incapacitating the latter. Covering their retreat from Kurokawa’s forces, Jabi is overwhelmed by prior injuries and recaptured.

Kurokawa transports Jabi to Miyagi Base, unveiling plans to artificially generate Rust Wind using a Tetsujin’s rust engine and condensed-rust bullets fired from the Ganesha Cannon. He demands Jabi supply young Mushroom Keepers, whose blood activates the Rust Eater’s power. Jabi refuses, even when threatened with the village’s destruction. During interrogation where Kurokawa orders Jabi’s fingers severed to prevent archery, a disguised Bisco rescues Jabi and assaults Kurokawa. Tasked with destroying the cannon, Jabi disables the Ganesha Cannon alongside Pawoo by triggering a malfunction and redirecting its fire, battling Kurokawa’s mutated gorillas.

After Kurokawa’s defeat, Jabi and Pawoo aid Milo in unearthing Bisco’s giant crab Actagawa, then join the fight against the revived Tetsujin. Struck off a cliff by the Tetsujin, Jabi survives with a leg injury as Milo treats him. Jabi reflects on the Tetsujin’s origins and the symbiotic rust-mushroom relationship. He later reunites with Milo, Tirol, and Pawoo, pursuing the Tetsujin to Imihama and contributing to its final defeat.
