Description
Hanzo Urushihara, originally Lucifer, is a fallen angel and former archangel who served as one of the Demon King's generals. Born after the angels' home world's destruction, he is the son of Ignora and Sataniel, placing him among the second generation of angels. He once held the highest rank among archangels, leading them in heaven, but abandoned his position due to profound boredom with his celestial duties. This fall transformed his wings from white to black, reclassifying him as a fallen angel with demonic traits. His celestial origins prevent him from being considered a pure demon despite his demonic influence.
He joined Satan Jacob's campaign to unite the demon realm, enticed by the promise of an engaging existence. During the conquest of Ente Isla, Lucifer subjugated the Western Continent with brutal tactics, burning fields and villages and causing significant human casualties, including Emilia Justina's father. Defeated by Emilia and believed dead, he was secretly rescued by the rogue Archbishop Olba Meyer. He allied with Olba, promising to eliminate the Demon King in exchange for a return to heaven. After a failed confrontation with Satan in Tokyo, Lucifer moved into Sadao Maou and Shirō Ashiya's apartment.
In human form, he appears as a frail teenager with purple hair and violet eyes, standing 155 cm tall. He typically wears a white short-sleeved top with light purple sleeves, rolled black trousers, blue-and-white sneakers, and purple ear piercings. Accessing his powers manifests black feathery wings; these wings temporarily revert to white after repeated consumption of holy-infused food prepared by Suzuno Kamazuki, reflecting his latent celestial connection despite his fallen status.
He exhibits a predominantly lazy and cunning personality, avoiding responsibilities while indulging in video games and internet activities. His reclusive habits and reluctance toward chores frequently label him a hikikomori or NEET. Beneath this exterior, he occasionally displays seriousness, selling belongings to assist financially or aiding allies in critical situations. He possesses technological proficiency, including hacking skills, and is easily irritated by boredom or leisure disruptions. He has a short temper and self-identifies as socially awkward, especially after falling victim to scams.
His abilities include flight via wings, energy projectiles, and explosive feathers. He demonstrates high endurance, surviving severe injuries like a stab through the chest. On Earth, his powers rely on absorbing negative human emotions, manifesting as purple demonic energy. Consuming Suzuno's holy-infused cooking temporarily restores angelic attributes, including white wings and spells like Farlight Dazzle for long-distance observation. His mixed heritage allows him to command lower-ranking angels, leveraging residual authority from his time in heaven.
He transitions from an antagonist to a grudging ally. Initially collaborating with Olba against Maou, he later rejects Olba's offers to rejoin the Church, choosing a mundane life with Maou and Ashiya. His wings' temporary whitening symbolizes a partial reconciliation with his angelic past, though he remains largely unmotivated unless directly engaged. He contributes to key conflicts using technological expertise and celestial knowledge, disrupting enemy plans or aiding strategy. Despite his inertia, he shows loyalty to his living arrangements and companions, prioritizing his "hikikomori lifestyle" as his preferred existence.
Notable traits include allergies to dust and cats, susceptibility to motion sickness during long vehicle rides, and an age fabricated as 18 in Japan despite being over 10,000 years old. His name "Lucifer" references the "morning star," and his backstory includes thematic parallels to religious lore, though he is distinct from traditional depictions of Satan.
