Description
Manabu Sakuma is a music critic for a classical music magazine called Classical Life. He is known for his overly poetic and flowery turns of phrase when describing performances. Before becoming a critic, Sakuma himself made great efforts and practiced intensely to become a musician but ultimately failed due to a lack of natural talent. This personal history shapes his motivation: he finds deep satisfaction in helping talented individuals who struggle to realize their potential. His role in the story begins when he attends a performance by Shinichi Chiaki with Orchestra A, conducted by Franz von Stresemann, without any expectations. He is profoundly moved by Chiaki's interpretation of a Rachmaninoff concerto and decides to become an ardent supporter of Chiaki's career. Sakuma lends his influence and support to the Rising Stars orchestra, which Chiaki helps form. When asked why he goes to such lengths, Sakuma explains that famous musicians have always had friends who fostered their talents and that this is the role he wishes to play. Throughout the series, Sakuma acts as a behind-the-scenes advocate, using his position and reputation to open doors for Chiaki and the orchestra. He does not undergo significant personal development or have a close relationship with Megumi Noda; his interactions are primarily focused on Chiaki and the musical projects he champions. His notable ability lies in his perceptive and articulate criticism, which carries weight in the classical music world, allowing him to effectively promote the talents he believes in.
