Mitsuhiro Oikawa is a Japanese performer born on October 24, 1969, in Tokyo. While he is primarily known as a singer and an actor in live-action television and film, he has also contributed to anime voice acting. His career began in the music industry when he debuted as a recording artist in 1996, and he later transitioned into acting. He is known for his polished public persona and has been referred to by nicknames including Mitchy. He is also outspoken about his love for anime, including being a fan of the Gundam franchise.

Oikawa made his first foray into voice acting for an animated feature with the 1999 film Revolutionary Girl Utena: The Movie, providing the voice for the character Akio Ohtori. Following this debut, he took on several notable roles in anime across different genres. In the science fiction action film Casshern, he voiced the character Kaoru Naito. He also played the villainous role of Black Claw in the 2004 film Cutie Honey. On television, his anime voice roles include Manabu Sakuma in Nodame Cantabile and a school teacher in the series Erased, which is also known as Boku dake ga Inai Machi.

Despite his success as a voice actor, Oikawa's acting career is much more heavily defined by his extensive work in live-action television dramas. Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, he appeared in critically acclaimed series such as White Tower, the long-running police drama Aibō, and the immensely popular business thriller Hanzawa Naoki, in which he played the supporting role of Shinobu Tomari. His performances in these live-action roles have earned him significant industry recognition, including the award for Best Supporting Actor at the 64th Television Drama Academy Awards for his role in Aibō Season 8.
