Live action TV
Description
Kanzo Mogi is a police detective and a member of the Japanese Task Force investigating the Kira case, specifically as depicted in the live-action film Death Note 2: The Last Name. In this adaptation, he is portrayed as a young officer, approximately 26 years old. Physically, he is a tall man with a large, broad-shouldered build and short, dark hair, typically dressed in a formal suit.
Mogi maintains a notably reserved and stoic demeanor, speaking very little and rarely displaying overt emotion. He is a dedicated and serious professional who carries out his duties without complaint. Despite his quiet and somewhat intimidating appearance, he is shown to have a connection with Sayu Yagami, Light Yagami's younger sister.
His role in the story is that of a supporting member of the task force, working under the command of Director Soichiro Yagami and alongside the detective L. Unlike his counterpart in the original manga and anime series, who survives through the entire story, Mogi meets an early and abrupt end in this film. He is killed by Misa Amane, the second Kira, who uses her Shinigami Eyes to learn his name and cause his death via a heart attack. This killing occurs during a televised broadcast, serving as a public demonstration of the second Kira's power. His death is a shocking event, witnessed by Sayu Yagami, and represents a significant departure from the source material, where a different officer, Hirokazu Ukita, is killed in a similar manner.
Mogi's development and abilities are largely defined by his professional conduct. He is a competent field agent and a loyal member of the team. However, his primary narrative function in this version of the story is to be an early casualty, demonstrating the lethal threat posed by the second Kira. The character has no further development beyond this point in the film, as his death occurs relatively early in the plot.
