Description
Iku Yuuki is the female protagonist of the story and the fraternal twin sister of Yori Yuuki. As a 15-year-old, she is portrayed as being fundamentally different from her academically gifted and popular brother. In contrast to Yori’s cold and distant demeanor, Iku is a cheerful, lively, and openly warm-hearted girl who approaches life with a sense of simple joy and naivety. She is not particularly skilled in her studies, often falling asleep in class, which leads her to frequently ask her brother for help or to borrow his notes. This lack of academic prowess, combined with her trusting and somewhat simple nature, often results in Yori scolding her and calling her an fool, though this dynamic masks deeper, more complicated feelings on his part.

Iku’s background is central to the story's conflict. She and Yori grew up as inseparable childhood allies, sharing an extremely close bond. However, as they entered adolescence, she became confused and saddened by her brother’s sudden attempts to create distance between them. Unaware of the romantic feelings and internal torment Yori is suffering, she initially perceives his coldness and harsh words as a rejection of their sibling bond. Iku deeply fears being abandoned by him, and her reaction to his growing distance is to cling more tightly to their connection with a forced cheerfulness, masking her own confusion and pain.

Her motivations and role in the narrative shift dramatically following Yori’s confession of love. Initially, she is horrified and torn; her primary motivation is to preserve the close relationship they have always had, but she is confronted with the reality that this relationship is no longer what Yori wants. She wavers between the fear of losing him entirely if she rejects him and the societal and moral taboo of reciprocating her twin brother’s feelings. This internal conflict defines her role as she transitions from a passive, confused sister to an active participant in the secret relationship. She eventually comes to realize and accept that she loves Yori not just as a sibling, but as a man, finding a sense of contentment in their forbidden bond even while acknowledging its wrongness in the eyes of the world.

Key relationships are the primary driver of Iku's development. Her bond with her twin brother Yori is the focal point of the entire story, evolving from one of innocent dependence to a complex, secretive romantic entanglement fraught with guilt and passion. She also shares a close friendship with Tomoka Kusunoki, who is also in love with Yori. Tomoka becomes a source of jealousy and conflict for Iku, especially when Yori uses Tomoka to try and distance himself from his sister, creating a painful love triangle among the three. Another significant relationship forms with Yano, Yori’s best friend. After Yori leaves, Yano steps into the role of Iku’s protector. He develops his own romantic feelings for her and confesses, but Iku remains steadfast in her love for her brother, vowing to find him and reaffirming that Yori is the only one she loves.

Throughout the narrative, Iku undergoes a significant transformation driven by her circumstances and Yori’s forceful actions. She evolves from a naive and somewhat helpless girl into a woman determined to protect her fragile, taboo relationship at all costs. Her development is marked by her moving from a state of shock and moral hesitation to making conscious, deliberate choices to be with Yori. Even when faced with the revelation that Yori is actually her half-brother, or when Yori leaves unexpectedly in an attempt to free her from the burden of their love, her resolve solidifies. She transitions from being simply an object of Yori's affection to an active agent who rejects alternative suitors and takes initiative to reunite with him, willing to face societal scorn for the sake of their bond. As for notable abilities, Iku possesses no special skills or exceptional talents; her characterization is consistently that of a clumsy, academically poor, and somewhat airheaded girl. Her notable traits are her emotional resilience and her determined spirit, rather than any physical or intellectual ability.
