Movie
Description
Minori Ichinose is a second-year student at Aozora Middle School, celebrated for her exceptional academic performance and for holding the best grades in her class. Her sharp intellect is matched by a profound love for reading, especially fairy tales, and a longstanding fondness for "The Little Mermaid" has made her deeply knowledgeable about mermaid lore. She possesses a characteristically stoic poker face that makes expressing emotions a challenge, yet a resilient sense of self resides beneath this quiet exterior.

Her appearance is defined by short, fluffy dark yellow hair and large cerulean blue eyes, usually covered by glasses. She typically wears a ruffled light blue top with a pastel yellow dress featuring white and gold lining, ribbon shoulder straps, white socks, and orange slip-on shoes. A yellow Heart Kuru Ring adorns her left middle finger. In colder weather, she switches to a cyan blouse with tartan shorts under a yellow coat, accessorized with an orange beret. For a movie appearance, she wore a dark yellow blouse dress and brown boots.

Her alter ego is Cure Papaya, a legendary warrior whose transformation is activated by a Tropical Pact and a Heart Kuru Ring. The transformation involves an intricate application of symbolic makeup that initiates a physical metamorphosis. Her hair grows longer and turns orange, styled into a layered bun decorated with red, yellow, and green beads and a yellow butterfly accessory. Yellow heart-shaped flecks appear in her eyes, and her eyelashes shift to a dark turquoise. As Cure Papaya, she wears a yellow and white ensemble with wing-like sleeves, a light blue shell with a bow on the chest, a pale yellow balloon skirt, and orange boots with yellow leg warmers. Her accessories include a yellow choker, red earrings with fruit slices, and light yellow fingerless gloves.

She possesses two special transformation styles. The Excellen-Tropical Style lightens her hair, changes her collar and sleeves to white and yellow, and alters her gloves to frilly wristbands. The Snow Crystal Tropical Style, which incorporates design elements from another Cure, grants her longer hair, a gold tiara, a lighter dress with puffy sleeves, rainbow heart-shaped wings, and opera-length gloves.

Her personal history includes a significant struggle with self-confidence. A passion for writing was crushed when a literary club senior harshly criticized and rejected her story, causing her to abandon writing and withdraw from the club. This incident seeded deep doubts about her own abilities.

A pivotal change began upon meeting Manatsu Natsuumi and Sango Suzumura, who read and genuinely enjoyed one of her stories. Though her initial reaction was negative, shaped by past criticism, their positive feedback left a lasting impression. Encountering the real mermaid Laura was a shock that ultimately affirmed her lifelong fascination with mermaid tales. Initially hesitant to accept the role of a Pretty Cure, encouragement from Laura and the sight of her friends in danger spurred her first transformation into Cure Papaya, activating her Tropical Pact.

Key events further shaped her growth. A body-swap incident with Laura, caused by the Mermaid Aqua Pot, gave her direct experience as a mermaid. While this initially blocked her transformation, her fierce determination to help her friends allowed her to overcome the magical obstacle, reverse the swap, and emerge bolder.

A major turning point was overcoming her writing block. The Tropical Club's decision to adapt one of her stories for a stage play forced a confrontation with her past trauma. Reluctant at first, a collaborative effort with her friends—including a trip to a papaya plantation where she admitted to never having eaten the fruit—led to an epiphany. She realized her writing relied too heavily on book knowledge rather than personal experience. Tasting a papaya for the first time and reflecting on her friends' nurturing support provided fresh inspiration, enabling her to rewrite her story successfully. This breakthrough paralleled a newfound ability to devise innovative strategies in battle, demonstrating increased confidence and adaptability.

Her relationships are central to her development. The energetic Manatsu Natsuumi gradually broke through her bashfulness to become a trusted friend. The mermaid Laura evolved from a figure of disbelief into a valued companion, their unique bond solidified by the body-swap experience. She shares a particularly close relationship with Kururun, a sea fairy, as she is the only one who can fully understand its gestures and communicate with it effectively.

As Cure Papaya, her personality becomes noticeably more energetic and confident compared to her civilian self, and she displays a wider range of emotions in battle. Her combat abilities include the solo attack "Panpaka Papaya Shot," performed with a Heart Rouge Rod. She also participates in several group attacks: "Mix Tropical" with Cures Summer, Coral, and Flamingo; "Land Beat Dynamic" and "Marine Beat Dynamic" with the full team while in Excellen-Tropical Style using the Tropical Heart Dresser; and "Heart Shining Orchestra," performed in the movie while the team is in their Snow Crystal Tropical Style.

The conclusion of her primary story arc involves processing the temporary departure of Laura, which brought initial sadness but was ultimately accepted. Although a machine designed to erase memories of mermaids initially affected her, the effects were reversed, allowing her to retain those precious memories. A significant personal victory is achieved when she finally regains the confidence to write stories again, signaling a full recovery from her past criticism. A reunion with Laura is confirmed.
