Description
Nachi is a supporting character in the manga series Azumi, later adapted into live-action films. He is one of ten orphaned children raised in isolation by the instructor Gensai Obata in the Kiridani valley, trained from a young age as assassins for a political mission. Among the group, Nachi stands out as one of the most skilled, particularly in swordsmanship, possessing the fastest drawing speed of any trainee except for Azumi herself. He has a calm and level-headed temperament, earning the respect of his peers, especially those closest to him. Nachi is Azumi's childhood friend and romantic interest; he won a competition against two other trainees, including Ukiha, for the right to pursue her. However, their relationship is cut short by the brutal initiation that concludes their training. In the final test, each trainee must kill their assigned partner, and Azumi is forced to kill Nachi. This event deeply traumatizes her, though she conceals her emotions as the others do. Nachi's death serves as a crucial emotional turning point for Azumi, hardening her resolve and marking her entry into a life of assassination. Beyond his skill with a blade, no other exceptional abilities are noted, and his development ends with his death in the early part of the story. His role is primarily that of a tragic figure whose sacrifice shapes the protagonist's journey.
