Description
Sakurako Mikage is a first-year high school student sharing classes with Ayumu Tanaka and Urushi Yaotome. She possesses a childhood friendship with Ayumu Tanaka and Takeru Kakuryu, stemming from their shared middle school. Although popular with male classmates, Sakurako displays a reserved demeanor and noticeable shyness outside her close circle. This timidity contrasts sharply with her straightforward behavior towards Takeru Kakuryu, whom she frequently teases, initially oblivious to his romantic feelings and her own developing emotions for him.

Physically short with long brown hair, brown eyes, and distinctive bangs that complement her shy personality, Sakurako typically wears the school sailor uniform and pleated skirt. Her reserved nature extends to an initial reluctance to join school clubs, preferring time with Takeru. She serves alongside him on the library committee, ensuring regular interaction.

Sakurako demonstrates proficiency in hypnotism, often using a five-yen coin on a string to induce trances. She employs this skill to influence Takeru's actions, compelling him to join the shogi club against his wishes or making him leave club activities early. This early tendency toward manipulation serves as a mechanism to navigate social situations and achieve desires indirectly, suggesting difficulty expressing feelings openly.

Her romantic development forms a significant arc. Initially unaware of her own emotions, Sakurako fails to recognize her affection for Takeru until later. She remains oblivious to his feelings despite his requests for eye contact. When questioned by Urushi about romantic interests, Sakurako denies specific attachments but acknowledges satisfaction in spending time with Takeru. Her understanding of love evolves after consulting Ayumu about romantic feelings, leading to introspection where she associates his description with her experiences around Takeru.

Key milestones mark her relationship's progression. During a White Day cinema outing, she unconsciously mimics on-screen physical intimacy by touching his hand, leaning on his shoulder, and nearly kissing him. Later, she consciously confirms they shared a kiss when questioned by Takeru, explaining she acted on her own desire. Their relationship advances significantly during a nighttime test of courage in the forest; Sakurako hypnotizes Takeru to compel a confession, but he inadvertently proposes marriage, which she accepts. This leads to an agreement to begin dating, pragmatically framed by her as necessary before marriage.

Sakurako shows gradual growth in expressing feelings more openly. During their first official date, she notices Takeru's unusual nervousness and advises him to behave normally, indicating a preference for their established dynamic. This progression from using hypnosis as a relational tool towards more direct communication reflects her evolving approach to intimacy.

Her connection to the shogi club remains peripheral despite Takeru's membership. Though Urushi identifies potential shogi talent in Sakurako during a library encounter and encourages practice, Sakurako declines formal club membership while occasionally visiting the club room, maintaining her primary focus on her relationship with Takeru.
