Description
McTeague is a minor but memorable character in the live-action film Alita: Battle Angel, a Hunter-Warrior operating in the dystopian Iron City. He is a cyborg of advanced age, described as approximately fifty years old, with only his head remaining organic while the rest of his body has been replaced by machinery. His most distinguishing feature is his partnership with a pack of cybernetic dogs known as the Hell Hounds, which he uses to track and subdue targets instead of the blades or heavy weaponry favored by other bounty hunters. McTeague is a genuine dog lover, a trait that defines his personality and motivations. During a tense gathering of Hunter-Warriors at the Kansas bar, he remains calm and even pets a puppy brought by the protagonist Alita, showing his gentle side. When the villainous cyborg Grewishka kills that same puppy during a subsequent attack, McTeague becomes enraged, and this anger drives him to assist Ido and Alita in driving Grewishka away. His role in the story is as a brief but important ally; his Hell Hounds help force Grewishka to retreat from the wounded Alita, but he does not appear again for the remainder of the film. His relationship with Alita is limited but positive, forming a short-lived alliance based on shared outrage rather than deep personal connection. McTeague has no notable character development or arc, as he appears only in a handful of scenes, but his abilities center on commanding his cyborg dogs, a unique approach in a world where most bounty hunters rely on personal combat enhancements. His design, a cowboy aesthetic with mechanical hounds, makes him visually distinctive even within the cyberpunk setting of Iron City.
