Description
Kanzo Hattori, commonly known as Hattori-kun, is an 11-year-old apprentice ninja from the Iga Province who serves as the central figure in the film Nin x Nin: Ninja Hattori-kun, the Movie. He is sent by his father, Jinzo Hattori, to the city of Edo, the modern-day Tokyo, as part of his final training. The conditions of his mission are specific: he must serve the first person he meets as his master, and he is forbidden from ever being seen by anyone other than this master, on pain of banishment from the Iga clan. This person is Kenichi Mitsuba, a young boy who becomes Hattori-kun's charge.
Hattori-kun is characterized by a pure-hearted and disciplined nature, strictly adhering to his ninja principles even when navigating the unfamiliar landscape of contemporary life. Having been raised in a remote, mountainous region, he is initially naive about modern urban society. He speaks in an archaic form of Japanese, which surprises those he meets, and common household items such as rice cookers and refrigerators, along with city elements like neon lights, completely baffle him. Despite his formidable training, he possesses a specific and strong fear of frogs, a weakness that can render him helpless.
His primary motivation throughout the film is twofold: to successfully complete his training by protecting and serving his master, Kenichi, and to investigate a mystery concerning his clan.
