Description
Professor Lund is a male Pokémon Researcher and a central figure in the events that unfold in LaRousse City. He is recognized as an authority in his field, holding the title of Pokémon Professor. His hometown is LaRousse City, a highly advanced and technologically driven metropolis. He is the father of a young boy named Tory Lund and works closely with his research assistant, a woman named Yuko.

Approximately four years before the main events of the story, Professor Lund traveled to the Arctic region for an investigation, accompanied by his son Tory and his assistant Yuko. During this expedition, a meteorite crashed nearby, carrying with it a mysterious Pokémon, Deoxys. The impact of the crash caused a herd of Sealeo and Walrein to stampede, forcing Professor Lund to rescue his son from danger. From a safe vantage point, he, Tory, and Yuko witnessed a fierce battle between the newly arrived Deoxys and a territorial Rayquaza. After Rayquaza seemingly neutralized the extraterrestrial Pokémon, Professor Lund discovered a strange, immobile green crystal—the last remaining piece of a second Deoxys that had also been present.

Motivated by a desire to understand this unprecedented phenomenon, Professor Lund dedicated the following years to studying the enigmatic green crystal. His research focused on the unique regenerative capabilities of the Deoxys species. He and Yuko worked extensively in their laboratory in LaRousse City, attempting to unlock the secrets of the Pokémon's biology. His work was so significant that he is credited with giving the Pokémon its name, Deoxys. As time passed, Professor Lund observed that the crystal had begun to emit signals, a sign that the dormant Deoxys was slowly regenerating. Unbeknownst to him, this signal was also a call that was drawing the original, fully recovered Deoxys from the Arctic to LaRousse City to reunite with its other half.

In his day-to-day life, Professor Lund is portrayed as a calm, professional, and dedicated researcher. His reputation is such that local law enforcement, namely Officer Jenny, seeks his counsel when unusual events occur. Despite his professional composure, he shares a genuinely good relationship with his son Tory. However, his work frequently consumes his time, leaving him often too busy to spend as much time with Tory as he would like. This dedication to his research inadvertently contributed to his son's initial withdrawn and technology-averse personality.

When the regenerated Deoxys finally arrived in LaRousse City, causing a city-wide blackout and panic, Professor Lund took charge of the initial response, suggesting a full evacuation. During the chaos, he was separated from his son and Yuko, who became trapped inside an impenetrable force field that Deoxys erected over the city's core. This situation forced Professor Lund to the city's outskirts, where he could only watch the escalating crisis through binoculars, fearing for the safety of his loved ones. At this moment, his typical calm demeanor was strained as he broke down from concern. As the conflict intensified, Rayquaza appeared to continue its battle, causing the city's automated defense robots, the Block Bots, to malfunction and run rampant. Demonstrating his deep knowledge of the city's technology, Professor Lund devised a plan and streamed a real-time message to his son, providing critical instructions on how to use Tory's passport to override and deactivate the Block Bot system. His actions were pivotal in resolving the crisis, allowing Officer Jenny to regain control and shut down the rampaging machines.

Throughout the story, Professor Lund's key relationship is with his son, Tory. He is shown to be a caring father who is ultimately pleased to see his son form new friendships with Ash, his friends, and the Pokémon Plusle and Minun. His working relationship with his assistant, Yuko, is one of trusted collaboration, as she independently worked on rejuvenating the second Deoxys core in the lab. Professor Lund's abilities are not combat-oriented but lie in his exceptional intellect as a researcher and scientist. He possesses considerable knowledge of Pokémon biology, specifically regarding the legendary Deoxys, as well as an expert-level understanding of LaRousse City's advanced technological infrastructure. His development throughout the story is subtle but present, as the crisis forces him to reconcile his professional life with his personal role as a father, ultimately bridging the gap between him and his son through their shared experience.
