Description
General Jak is a primary antagonist and the supreme military commander of the Crisis Empire's Earth invasion forces in the series. He serves as the immediate superior to the four main lieutenants—Gatezone, Bosgun, Maribaron, and Gedorian—and is responsible for orchestrating the campaign to conquer Earth and eliminate the titular hero, Kamen Rider BLACK RX.
His background is that of a pure-blooded member of the Crisis Empire, having risen through the ranks to become its foremost military leader and the supreme commander of its invasion army. He carries a long staff as his signature weapon, which can release powerful blasts of yellow electricity capable of defending against enemy attacks or punishing subordinates.
In terms of personality, General Jak is portrayed as a calm, calculating, and commanding presence who rules through a balanced mix of discipline and care. While he is capable of extreme cruelty and has no hesitation in punishing failure—once stating that a flawed strategy requires its architect to pay the price—he also demonstrates a genuine concern for his subordinates that is unusual for a villain of his stature. He saves Maribaron from execution at the hands of the inspector Dasmader and attempts to avenge the fallen Gatezone and Bosgun after they are destroyed by Kamen Rider BLACK RX. This duality marks him as a commander who, while ruthless, values loyalty and is willing to risk himself for those under his command.
His motivations are initially centered on the successful conquest of Earth and the destruction of Kamen Rider BLACK RX. As the series progresses, his role shifts from that of a confident conqueror to a desperate warrior. When the Crisis Emperor loses patience with his inability to defeat the hero, General Jak is forcibly transformed into the more powerful monster Jark Midler against his will, making him a tool of the very empire he served. In this enhanced form, he possesses superhuman strength, wields a large sword, and can fire deadly laser beams from his eyes. As Jark Midler, he succeeds in killing the parents of the Sahara family, one of Kotaro Minami's spiritual supports, and easily defeats veteran heroes Kamen Riders V3 and Riderman.
His key relationships are primarily with his four lieutenants. He shares a notably deep connection with Maribaron, showing her unusual leniency, and expresses fury when her life is threatened. He also has a tense relationship with the inspector Dasmader, who arrives to oversee operations and poses a threat to his authority. Ultimately, his relationship with the unseen Crisis Emperor is one of subservience that ends in betrayal when he is forcibly modified into a weapon against his will.
General Jak undergoes a significant negative transformation in his development. He begins as a respected and powerful leader but is gradually reduced to a pawn by the very empire he faithfully served. Forced into the monstrous Jark Midler form, he is stripped of his original identity and sent on a suicidal mission to kill Black RX. In his final battle, after being defeated by the Revolcane, he reverts to his original form and, with his dying breath, laughs defiantly and warns his foe that not even he can defeat the Crisis Emperor, demonstrating a final glimmer of his former pride and his ultimate abandonment by his masters.
