Description
Gebacondor is a condor-based kaijin, or monster, from the original 1971 Kamen Rider television series. Created by the terrorist organization Shocker, Gebacondor was designed to be the ultimate assassin, meant to surpass all previous monsters who had been defeated by Kamen Rider 1. He was constructed by using a computer to analyze and combine the strongest traits of Shocker's defeated monsters, making him a formidable and advanced weapon in their ongoing campaign.
The creature has a distinct and unsettling appearance. His body is primarily black and yellow, with green pectoral muscles and a blue-scaled head. A large red crack is visible on his cranium, and he possesses pointed ears, sharp fangs, and sharp claws. The yellow, membrane-like wings under his arms grant him the ability of flight. He is typically seen wearing black boots and a black belt with the Shocker insignia.
Gebacondor is a being driven by a monstrous need. To be activated and function at full power, he requires the blood of young women. His primary motivation is to fulfill this need and to serve Shocker's goal of world domination by eliminating Kamen Rider. Upon his awakening, he proved to be a significant threat, easily overpowering Kamen Rider 1 in their first encounter and demonstrating a clear superiority in raw strength and combat ability. He was able to endure a direct attack from the Rider Kick, a move that had destroyed previous enemies.
His role in the story is that of a powerful obstacle which forces the heroes to adapt. After his initial victory, Gebacondor actively terrorizes the city by indiscriminately kidnapping young women for their blood. This rampage prompts the supporting characters, including Tobei Tachibana and the newly introduced FBI agent Kazuya Taki, to take a more proactive role. It is through their efforts and a clever trap that Kamen Rider 1 gets a second chance to confront the monster. In their final battle, Gebacondor again gains the upper hand, forcing Kamen Rider to use his motorcycle, the Cyclone, in a novel way. Rider ultimately destroys Gebacondor by jumping into the air with the Cyclone and ramming into him, an attack that causes the monster to explode.
Despite his destruction, Gebacondor's threat was not permanent. He was later resurrected by Shocker on multiple occasions to serve in the Revived Monster Army. He appeared in later episodes of the original series, including a confrontation with Kamen Rider 2, against whom he was far less effective and was easily defeated twice before being destroyed by a Rider Kick. He also made a brief cameo appearance in the movie Kamen Rider vs. Shocker as part of a monster army.
Gebacondor possesses a range of notable abilities. He is capable of high-speed flight using the membranes under his arms and can also teleport anywhere within his general location. He is highly agile, able to perform flips in the air, and possesses superhuman strength, which he used to throw Kamen Rider 1 a considerable distance. His sharp fangs are specifically designed to bite into humans and drain their blood. By flapping his wings, he can also generate powerful winds strong enough to blow away objects on the ground. Despite his power, he has a known weakness: his eyesight is completely ineffective in darkness.
