Osamu Saka was a renowned Japanese actor and voice actor, celebrated for his extensive career spanning over seven decades. He was born on November 7, 1930, in Osaka, Japan, and was affiliated with the talent management firm Aoni Production. His career began in the 1950s, with early experience in theatre companies such as the Asahi Broadcasting Corporation Drama Company and Theatre Echo before focusing on voice acting.

Saka possessed a distinctive low and husky voice, which made him a natural fit for authoritative and elderly characters. This vocal quality, along with his proficiency in the Kansai dialect, became his signature and led to a vast array of roles across animation, video games, and foreign language dubbing.

His filmography is exceptionally broad, featuring prominent roles in numerous major anime series and films. He was widely recognized for voicing Daisuke Aramaki, the chief of Public Security Section 9, in the acclaimed Ghost in the Shell franchise, including the series Stand Alone Complex, its sequel 2nd GIG, the film Solid State Society, and the later net animation SAC_2045. He was also the voice of Grandpa Son Gohan in the original Dragon Ball series. Other significant anime roles include Seitaro Sakaki in the Patlabor series, Shinsuke Tanba in Knights of Sidonia, Masaki Amamiya in Cardcaptor Sakura, and the Nome King in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

In addition to television and film, Saka had a prolific career in original video animations and video games. His OVA credits include King Fahn in Record of Lodoss War, Kaiser Friedrich IV in Legend of the Galactic Heroes, and Miyamoto Musashi in Ninja Resurrection. In the realm of video games, he was the voice of memorable characters such as The End in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Tengu in the Dead or Alive series, and Code Talker in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

Saka was also a mainstay in the world of dubbing, providing the Japanese voices for numerous Western actors. He was the regular dubbing voice for actors John Cleese and Anthony Hopkins. His extensive dubbing work also includes roles for actors like Morgan Freeman, Ian McKellen, and William Shatner in various films.

A notable recurring collaboration was with director Kenji Kamiyama, voicing Chief Aramaki in multiple Ghost in the Shell productions. Among his many achievements, his portrayal of the elderly sniper The End in Metal Gear Solid 3 is frequently cited by fans as a standout performance. He was also a respected instructor at the Aoni Production voice acting school, Aoni Juku, where he helped train future generations of voice actors. He was married to fellow voice actress Yoshiko Ota.
