Description
After a brutal war with a rival cartel, a Mexican drug lord is forced to flee his homeland. He eventually finds himself halfway around the world in Jakarta, where he crosses paths with a disgraced Japanese heart surgeon now working as an illegal organ broker. This chance meeting leads the two criminals to travel to Japan with the goal of establishing a new underground enterprise in the organ trade. Once there, the former cartel leader takes a lonely, abandoned young boy under his wing. The lives of the drug lord, the organ broker, and the boy become inextricably entangled in a dark world of crime, violence, and human trafficking. Their growing criminal empire unfolds under the looming, eerie shadow of a dead Aztec god, Tezcatlipoca, whose presence suggests that forces beyond their control are guiding their bloody rise and inevitable fate.

The story follows three central figures bound by desperation and moral decay. The drug lord is a brutal survivor, a man who lost everything in Mexico and seeks to rebuild his power by any means necessary. The Japanese organ broker is a skilled surgeon whose talents were rejected by the legitimate medical establishment, leading him to the horrific fringes of society. The boy is a neglected child who commits a terrible act and is subsequently locked away, only to be pulled into this new, sinister family. Set across the gritty, clandestine underbellies of Jakarta and Japan, the narrative tracks the formation of this makeshift and monstrous family as they carve out a new criminal dynasty, all while haunted by the spectral presence of the ancient deity whose name signifies the Smoking Mirror.
