In 1982 Los Angeles, the glamour and excess of the Sunset Strip’s rock scene mask a dark reality as a serial killer begins targeting women. The murderer, charismatic nightclub regular Kent Grainger, charms victims before killing them and publicly displaying their dismembered bodies in locations tied to the infamous Hillside Strangler cases. Detective Jack Roth, a veteran cop with his own troubled past, is paired with a reluctant new partner, Paco Contreras, to hunt the killer. Their investigation crosses paths with Karen McClaren, an ambitious young reporter who unknowingly becomes close to Grainger, and Betty Beaumontaine, a single mother whose dangerous flirtation with the charming killer places her directly in his crosshairs.

A separate live-action television series with the same title follows a coven of five young, modern Black witches living in Atlanta. The group, led by the experienced Tabitha, accidentally causes a death while initiating a naturally powerful but untrained witch named Camille. Desperate to cover up the incident, they perform a forbidden resurrection spell, but instead of restoring their victim, they unleash a sinister, powerful wraith from the other side. As the coven struggles to defeat this dark being, they must also navigate complicated personal lives, old betrayals, and unearthed secrets from their past that threaten to destroy them.
