Somewhere in Japan, a very special group of students has gathered at Koharu Girls High School. These girls are the reincarnated souls of legendary samurai from the Bakumatsu period, the tumultuous final years of the Tokugawa shogunate. Living as teenage girls with their past memories fully intact, students bearing the names and spirits of figures like Sakamoto Ryoma, Hijikata Toshizo, Takasugi Shinsaku, Katsura Kogoro, Kondo Isami, and Okita Soji must now navigate the unfamiliar terrain of modern high school life.

The central narrative focuses on two of the era's most prominent stars. Sakamoto, the spirited soul of the visionary Sakamoto Ryoma, transfers to Koharu High and immediately experiences love at first sight with Hijikata, a stern member of the school's disciplinary committee who carries the soul of the Shinsengumi vice-commander, Hijikata Toshizo. However, their path is immediately blocked by an ironclad school rule that strictly forbids any and all romance among the student body.

Caught between their lingering historical baggage, their new identities as teenage girls, and the school's draconian prohibition on love, Sakamoto and Hijikata must contend with the messy rivalries and alliances from their past lives while forging new ones in the present. The series follows this dramatic girls’ love story as they fight for their forbidden connection, navigating modern society with the souls of revolutionary warriors.
