Description
Gen Suzuki, a young man who grew up in an orphanage, tries to live an honest life until he is hit with the crushing reality of a 10 million yen debt incurred by his sister. Desperate, he decides to rob a dark casino, an act that plunges him into the treacherous underworld rather than solving his problems. His plan fails, and he is instead forced into the service of a powerful yakuza faction. He becomes a sacrificial pawn for the Kuronomiya group, one of two warring sides within the larger Date Clan. To protect himself and his loved ones, Gen must climb through the ranks of casino dealers before the Kuronomiya leader returns.
The story is set in the dangerous and clandestine world of yakuza-run gambling dens, known as dark casinos. The narrative focuses on two interconnected elements: the violent power struggle between the two factions of the Date Clan and Gens harrowing journey through this world from the perspective of a dealer. Rather than being a gambler who risks his own money, Gens survival depends on his skill in operating games and managing high-stakes tables for powerful criminals. Most of the gambling matches center on variations of baccarat using a standard deck of cards, with the tension arising from the underworld politics and the life-or-death consequences of each hand he deals.
The main character is Gen Suzuki, an orphan driven by desperation to a life of crime, who must use his wits to survive as a dealer in a ruthless environment. He is caught between the competing interests of the Kuronomiya group and their rivals. The art style is noted for its intense visual metaphors and exaggerated character expressions that heighten the emotional peaks of victory and defeat, a key element in gambling-themed narratives.
Over the course of 50 chapters, the story follows Gen as he navigates the internal conflicts of the yakuza clan. His goal is to survive long enough to pay off his debt and escape the underworld, but he is forced to become a key player in a clash of ambitions where the strongest desire to come out on top determines the victor. The final arc hints at a more traditional one-on-one gambling format, but the manga concludes shortly after introducing other casino staples beyond its core focus on card games. The complete series, published from December 2019 to April 2021, delivers a compact and focused story about a young man`s brutal baptism into the world of underground gambling.
