Description
The underground idol group Aisu Beverage, also known as Aibiba, disbands after two years and four months of activity, a lifespan that is unfortunately common for many such groups. Former member Sakurai Anjyu, who has dreamed of being an idol since childhood, finds herself unable to move on while her fellow members, Kuretani Tomoko and Mizusawa Jiu, have already chosen new paths for themselves.
Months later while working at a dog and cat girl maid cafe, Anjyu encounters a 12-year-old prodigy who produces music using the Vocaloid software, going by the name Black Camellia P, her real name being Tsubaki Kurokawa. After hearing a popular song Tsubaki composed and witnessing an old performance of Anjyu's former group, the young producer decides to help. Anjyu and Tsubaki set out to convince Tomoko and Jiu to return to the stage for a comeback, with Tsubaki taking on the role of their new producer.
The story follows the group as they prepare for a new debut under the name Idol Be Back, a title suggested by a fan that Anjyu embraces. The narrative explores the inner workings of the idol industry, including handshake events and cheki polaroid photos, while depicting the characters navigating the difficult transition from the underground idol world to the ambition of performing in larger arenas. The series takes place in the same world as the manga Comic Girls, with cameo appearances from characters such as Moeta Kaoruko appearing as a patron at the maid cafe where Anjyu works.
The main cast includes the determined and天真活泼 Anjyu who leads the revival effort, the孤僻 and shy producer Tsubaki who has strong creative vision despite her social anxiety, the reliable and nurturing Tomoko who eventually finds her way back to the group, and the enigmatic Jiu whose strong stage presence makes her a valuable asset. Their dynamic is tested as old memories resurface and each member must decide if they are willing to risk pursuing an uncertain dream again.
