Description
Otogi Katsura has perfected the role of the school angel beautiful, kind, and effortlessly perfect, she is the beloved class president who has everyone wrapped around her finger. This flawless image, however, is a complete fabrication. In reality, Otogi is calculating, sharp-tongued, and works tirelessly to maintain her popular facade because she secretly craves the admiration it brings. Her carefully constructed world is thrown into chaos when she encounters Toki Ninomae, the male heartthrob angel of the first-year class. After Otogi is forced to drop her act in front of him, she discovers that Toki is exactly like her. Beneath his gentle and gallant exterior, he is just as duplicitous, using his charm as a tool for his own convenience.
The story is set in a modern Japanese high school where these two false angels are forced to navigate their double lives. Rather than becoming enemies, Toki makes a surprising proposal: since they both know each other's secrets, they can become a safe space for one another. He declares Otogi his partner in crime, and the two form an uneasy alliance. As class president and vice president, they must work together while hiding their true natures from their adoring classmates. Their dynamic shifts from rivalry to a complicated partnership as they find moments to drop their acts in secret, such as at a local coffee shop owned by Toki’s childhood friend, where they can finally breathe and be themselves.
As the story progresses, the narrative explores the theme of duplicity and when it is acceptable to be two-faced. An early notable arc involves a predatory teacher named Seki-sensei, who hides his unsavory nature behind a veil of adult respectability. Unlike Otogi and Toki, whose deception is largely selfish, Seki uses his act to harm students. This forces the two protagonists to use their skills of deception for a noble cause, helping a classmate by going undercover to expose the teacher. This arc highlights the central conflict of the manga: while maintaining a facade is exhausting, it can also be a powerful tool for justice and connection, allowing the two false angels to build a unique relationship based on the one thing no one else knows their flaws.
