Description
The story follows Ibu, a young man who has returned to Tokyo from a remote southern island. He possesses a strange and uncanny mind-reading ability, which he uses to help his companion Okitsu delve into a traumatic event from his past. The narrative is driven by their investigation into the mystery surrounding the kidnapping of Okitsu when he was a child. Using clues from childhood notebooks and the memories of a friend named Yuto, they retrace the steps of the past, returning to the very site where the abduction occurred to uncover the truth. As the two men grow closer and become lovers, Ibu accompanies Okitsu back to Tokyo, using his psychic power to re-explore the shadows of Okitsu’s troubled history. However, the revelations they unearth, which should bring them closer together, instead create a cold distance between them upon their return home. The story is set in contemporary Japan, moving between Tokyo and the more isolated southern island, creating a backdrop that blends everyday life with a growing sense of psychological suspense. The central conflict revolves around whether their romantic bond can survive the weight of the past, testing if Okitsu can follow his heart when times become difficult despite not sharing Ibu’s ability to read minds. The complete narrative is told across two collected volumes, which also features a subplot involving a public book signing event where an obsessed fan discovers Ibu is male and reacts violently, as well as a confrontation with a fellow writer named Kamii to resolve lingering questions about Ibu’s past.
