Description
Five people suddenly find themselves in a world where the rest of humanity has inexplicably vanished. These survivors are gathered through anonymous messages by a mysterious entity calling itself the Emperor, who forces them to participate in a deadly game. The rule is brutally simple yet terrifying: the majority dies. This is the central conflict of Tasūketsu, a suspense manga by Taiga Miyakawa.
The story follows high school student Saneatsu Narita, the main protagonist, alongside his best friend Ryūta Ichinose and student council member Saaya Fujishiro, the main female lead. They are among the selected few forced to endure the Emperor's trials. Other key participants include Kazuhiko Sato, nicknamed Ippiko, the small-statured Omi Jin, and Eren Kunashiri. The cast also includes older students like Tōjūrō Yagihashi and adults such as teacher Sōtarō Shinozaki, all struggling to survive the arbitrary death sentences handed down by majority vote.
The setting is a surreal, depopulated version of Japan, transformed into a closed arena where the Emperor's word is law. The narrative spans multiple parts, beginning serialization online in September 2013 and continuing through to a fourth part launched in December 2023. The plot revolves around these forced binary choices, where the characters must navigate shifting alliances and betrayals, constantly trying to outwit a system designed to eliminate the majority in each round.
This core premise of the manga was also adapted into a 7-minute original video animation titled Tasūketsu: Judgement Assizes, released in January 2021. A full anime television series adaptation later aired from July to December 2024, bringing the story of the Emperor and his deadly game of majority rule to a wider audience.
