On a typical weekday, twenty-seven-year-old office worker Yuu Nademaki returns home to retrieve a forgotten item and discovers her husband, who had called in sick, in the middle of an affair with one of her coworkers. As the heated argument escalates, the entire love triangle scene is abruptly summoned to a strange, stone-walled room in another world. An elderly man in fantastical attire informs the trio that he has summoned a hero to save his world, and his magic has assigned them their roles. Yuu’s husband is declared the Hero, her rival the Saint, while Yuu herself is assigned the role of Housewife. The old man suggests the Housewife is an unwanted addition, implying she should serve the hero or be discarded. Refusing to bow to this humiliation, Yuu rejects the offer and immediately sets out on her own.

The central character, Yuu Nademaki, is a sharp-tongued, baby-faced, and pragmatic cat lover. Unencumbered by her unfaithful husband and eager to abandon her bad debts, she sees the summoning as an opportunity rather than a curse. She quickly discovers that in this world, her role as a Housewife grants her unique abilities, most notably a skill called Superhuman Strength, which multiplies her physical power several times over. While her husband and his mistress likely struggle with the expectations of their heroic titles, Yuu heads to the nearest city. She befriends a talking Cait Sith (fairy cat) named Rune who helps her find work.

The setting begins in a fantasy kingdom that summoned the heroes, but Yuu quickly relocates to the commercial city of Rosefurava and its local adventurers guild branch. The initial major arc focuses on Yuu establishing her independence. Using her domestic skills and superhuman strength, she takes on a job cleaning the guild, which has been neglected to the point of being a garbage dump. From there, she expands her activities to laundry, cooking, monster subjugation, and rescue operations, carving out a prosperous life for herself while forming a new party of allies. Later arcs follow her climbing the ranks of the guild, dealing with waves of monsters, and encountering other powerful figures, all while her ex-husband’s incompetent party operates in the background.
