Description
In the near future of the year 20XX, Akihabara, once known as the holy land of otaku culture, has fallen into a state of decline. The stories, characters, and passions that defined the district are being erased by a mysterious illness that causes people to lose their memories of their favorite anime, manga, and games. This decay is not a natural phenomenon but the result of malicious viruses that invade and destroy the worlds of various fictional works, taking the public’s cherished memories with them.
The story centers on a small group of girls who work at the Rabbit Hutch Head Office, one of the few remaining specialty shops in Akihabara dedicated to otaku goods. Guided by a strange, screw-headed rabbit named Nejire Usagi (or NejiUsa), these young women discover they possess a unique ability. They can physically enter the worlds of the stories that are under attack. Transforming into powerful heroines, their mission is to fight the memory-eating viruses within these fantastic realms and protect the very existence of the stories themselves.
The central protagonist is Izumi Asagi, an energetic and positive high school girl who is childhood friends with the shop’s unnamed manager. She is joined by a diverse cast of otaku, each with their own specialties and passions. This includes Ayaka Sakaki, a shy but brilliant cosplayer with a deep love for BL and shonen manga whose enthusiasm can become overwhelming; Irina Leskova, a serious and strict Russian exchange student who loves Japanese culture and military paraphernalia; and Kaoruko Nijouin, a wealthy and skilled martial artist who is an elitist but kind anime fan. Other members include the cat-like Yuina Machiya, the mysterious Michi Edogawabashi, and the motherly Minami Senju, among others. Together, they form a team dedicated to restoring Akihabara to its former glory.
The narrative follows the girls as they dive into different fictional worlds inspired by classic anime and manga genres, ranging from fantasy to science fiction. In each world, they encounter characters from the threatened stories and battle against viruses and the forces of antagonistic groups like Black Elite or Adventure Delight, who seek to systematically destroy these universes. The manga, drawn by Kairaku Kano, adapts the premise of the original smartphone game for a seinen demographic. The story balances action and adventure with slice-of-life moments at the Rabbit Hutch shop, focusing on the protagonists as they learn to work together, protect the culture they love, and reverse the memory loss plaguing the world.
