Manga
Description
In a society where everyday cruelties like domestic violence, workplace harassment, and betrayal often go unpunished, a mysterious and beautiful fortune teller named Ada appears. Disappearing as enigmatically as she arrives, Ada possesses an uncanny ability to see into the hearts of tormented women and identify the monsters that are consuming their lives. Rather than merely predicting their futures, she awakens a dark, dormant power within them, encouraging her clients to take revenge on those who have wronged them. Ada serves as the catalyst, but the action belongs to the victims themselves, each of whom transforms from a passive sufferer into an agent of calculated retaliation.

The narrative unfolds in an episodic or anthology format, with different protagonists across various arcs. In the first story, a housewife named Satomi Arisawa is trapped in a nightmare disguised as a glamorous life. Her husband is a famous education critic, but behind closed doors, he is physically abusive, unfaithful, and her mother-in-law is relentlessly cruel. Driven to despair, Satomi finds Ada’s fortune-telling parlor in a back alley. It is here that she is given the push to abandon her role as a victim and launch a brutal, meticulously planned revenge against her husband and his family. Later arcs feature other women, such as an office lady whose ideas and boyfriend are stolen by a female superior, and a woman swindled out of her inheritance by a man she met on a dating app. Each woman is an ordinary person, but through Ada’s guidance, she discovers her inner monster.

The manga is a drama and psychological thriller published by Shueisha, written by Torafugu and illustrated by Ai Odawara. It blends the tension of a revenge thriller with the catharsis of a social commentary, directly confronting issues of moral harassment, power harassment, and psychological abuse. The setting is grounded in contemporary Japan, making the fantastic element of Ada’s intervention feel startlingly real. Ada herself remains an enduring mystery throughout these arcs; her true motives and nature are never fully explained, leaving the reader to wonder if she is a supernatural being, a manifestation of rage, or simply a human with extraordinary insight. Her legacy lies not just in the revenge she facilitates but in her radical, ambiguous defiance of a system that allows the powerful to exploit the vulnerable.
