Kazunobu Haramoto, a low-ranking yakuza new to the underworld, sees his ambitions shattered when a mysterious assassin raids his gang's office, leaving all his comrades dead. Kazunobu survives the attack alongside Mutsumi, the young daughter of his boss. Police place the two surviving witnesses into a protection program, but their chosen hideout is an unusual one: a strict, seven hundred year old Zen Buddhist temple. Now forced to live under the temple's rigid discipline, the would-be thug must choose between execution or the path to nirvana, adapting to a monastic life that clashes completely with his criminal aspirations.
