Description
At twenty-five years old, Alice Kato is worn down by insecurities regarding both her body and her own name, which she feels is too pretty for someone like her. Working as an apparel store clerk, she finds herself constantly comparing her appearance to others and feeling a secret, shameful sense of relief when she sees someone larger than herself. The relentless comments from her mother about her weight only add to her emotional burden, pushing Alice to a breaking point where she feels she cannot stay in her parents' home in Saitama any longer. Seeking to escape and start over, she makes the decision to travel to the rural prefecture of Aomori, famous for its apple orchards, where her relatives live.
It is under the wide, open sky of the Aomori countryside that Alice encounters Masaichi, a quiet and mysterious young apple farmer. Though he is a man of few words, his unique and gentle kindness begins to affect Alice in ways she did not expect. The narrative follows her gradual process of healing and self-acceptance as she learns to stop running from her insecurities. Through the simple honesty of rural life and her growing connection with Masaichi, Alice starts to find a place where she truly belongs, slowly rebuilding her broken heart and learning to see herself in a new light.
