Description
Saeki Kanji is a 32-year-old former salaryman who, after inheriting his family's farm, left his job in Tokyo to start a new life in the rural and slowly depopulating village of Miyama. One day, a beautiful young woman clad in full body armor appears at his door, begging for a place to spend the night. She introduces herself as a knight and member of royalty from a fantastical parallel world, claiming she is unable to return to her home.
Despite the absurdity of her story, Kanji allows her to stay, and the woman he eventually names Chris ends up living with him, trading her sword for a hoe to help with the local agriculture. The story follows their daily lives as they navigate the mysteries of each other's worlds, with Chris gradually learning about modern Japanese customs and the complexities of running a farm, while Kanji learns about the magic and dangers of her lost realm.
The narrative expands over time to include a supporting cast, such as Honami, a government official and Kanji's former ex-girlfriend who becomes involved in managing the secrets surrounding Chris's otherworldly origins. As the series progresses, several emotional and relational arcs develop. A major focus is the slow-burn romantic tension between Kanji and Chris, complicated by her homesickness, her anxieties about being trapped in a foreign world, and the potential of them eventually being separated. Subplots follow the romantic struggles of the villagers, including the story of a young girl named Natsumi reconciling with her past, and the local pushover Uryu trying to connect with the standoffish Momo, all while dealing with the day-to-day challenges of rural life like harvests and animal husbandry. The overall arc involves Chris coming to terms with her new life, finding a sense of belonging in the countryside, and the possibility that she might choose to stay forever.
