Manga
Description
A legendary figure known as a nagare dokata, or wandering construction worker, is said to appear at difficult job sites. His name is Dokacook, and he is both a master of manual labor and a chef of extraordinary skill. The premise holds that behind every great structure, there is Dokacook, who fills the stomachs and hearts of the workers with his delicious food, ensuring the project's success.

The protagonist is Kyobashi Kensaku, a wandering laborer who goes by the alias Dokacook. He is a large, muscular man who, regardless of the season, wears a sleeveless red jacket with the word KYOBASHI printed on the back, along with knickerbockers and a headband that he uses as a tasuki (a cord to hold up his sleeves) while cooking. He possesses exceptional skills in a vast range of construction fields, from civil engineering and building construction to track maintenance and even shipbuilding. He is also a master chef who always carries his own branded kitchen knife and is capable of cooking dozens of portions at once. He is known online as the legendary Dokacook, but he never publicly admits to being that person. He dislikes being relied upon, and after solving a site's problems with a meal and his skills, he always leaves, insisting he is just a simple laborer.

The manga follows a recurring formula. When a construction project faces a crisis—often related to workers losing their motivation or conflicts arising on site—Kyobashi appears and uses his strength and culinary talent to resolve the issue. A unique aspect of the series is its vocabulary: the process of cooking is depicted using construction metaphors, and finishing a meal is called "completion" or shunkō. The food prepared is described as doka-uma (incredibly delicious), and Kyobashi often uses construction tools and methods from the specific site to prepare the meal, reminding the workers of the value of their own trade. Examples of his creations include the Fresh Fried Dokakoro Don, the Dokarubi Fried Rice Don, and the Yokohama Port Opening Road Curry. The story always ends with Kyobashi moving on to his next destination.

The first story was published in 2007, with several one-shots following in various magazines, sometimes under titles like Dokacook Hompo. A serialized installment titled Dokasen, published from 2018 to 2019, depicts the protagonist working as a teacher at a technical high school. Another one-shot, Dokacook Δ, is set in ancient Egypt. The most recent major arc is Dokakue Isekai Dokacook Kuesto, serialized from 2023 to 2025. This arc sends Kyobashi to the fantasy world of the Vermilion Islands, where he partners with Princess Lapis, a hero of a great war, to use his meals and construction skills to rebuild a devastated kingdom torn by constant minor conflicts.
