Description
Torii is a Japanese citizen who travels to Hong Kong’s Kowloon Walled City for a personal reason. After losing his luggage to a local thief and wandering the labyrinthine enclave until nightfall, he is seized by a mysterious man named Sharaku, who at first appears to kidnap him but instead offers him a meal and shelter. Sharaku is a former Taoist priest who runs a small shop in the city, and Torii begins working there as a part-time employee while studying abroad. One day, Torii is treated to a meal at an elderly man’s home, but when the old man dies suddenly before his eyes, Torii is accused of murder. Sharaku arrives to help and, together with Torii, begins an investigation to prove his innocence. The story unfolds as an oriental Chinese narrative mystery, with the two protagonists navigating the dark corridors and hidden dangers of Kowloon Walled City while uncovering secrets tied to the death and the city’s underworld. The series is set entirely within the now‑legendary Kowloon Walled City, a densely packed, self‑contained urban maze, and combines supernatural elements with a detective‑style plot. The main characters are Torii, the earnest Japanese student caught in a web of suspicion, and Sharaku, the enigmatic ex‑priest with a hidden past and ulterior motives. Notable narrative arcs include the initial kidnapping and bonding between the pair, the framing for murder and the subsequent investigation, and the gradual revelation of Sharaku’s true intentions. The manga is complete in nine chapters collected in two volumes.
