Punie Tanaka is the princess of Magical Land and next in line for the throne. To qualify as queen, she must spend one year on Earth as a transfer student at a Japanese high school. On the surface, Punie appears sweet, cheerful, and innocent, but she is easily provoked into extreme violence. When threatened or annoyed, she drops her kind facade and unleashes brutal martial arts moves and powerful magic, cheerfully defeating anyone who stands in her way.

Punie’s time on Earth is anything but peaceful. She is constantly targeted by assassins sent by rivals from her own kingdom, including the magical girl Elise von Barbaroque and her own twin younger sisters, Pyun and Potaru, who hope to eliminate her and claim the throne themselves. Punie’s animal mascot, Paya-tan, is another recurring threat—a bitterly resentful former king of the Mascot Village who was forcibly recruited and now makes regular attempts on Punie’s life.

At her school, Punie interacts with a cast of eccentric characters. Anego is a local delinquent gang leader whose schemes frequently clash with Punie. Tetsuko, a more ordinary classmate, often becomes caught up in the chaos. The series follows a series of absurd episodic conflicts, each parodying common tropes in magical-girl anime and everyday school life: a school festival where Punie uses her miracle rod to stop Anego’s gang, a sports festival that spoofs Japanese history through a cavalry battle, a midterm exam involving a sadistic substitute teacher and extreme cheating, and a date gone wrong at an amusement park. Punie’s flashbacks also reveal her earlier exploits in Magical Land, including how she conquered the Mascot Village.

The setting shifts between the mundane Japanese high school environment and the fantastical, often violent magical world. The narrative is driven by black comedy, gleefully juxtaposing cute, pastel-colored magical-girl visuals with sudden, graphic violence. The title itself is a pun on a classic jidaigeki film. The manga is composed of four volumes, with a direct sequel titled Super Great Magical Gap that continues Punie’s adventures.
