Description
A human astronaut named Hitoshi crash-lands on a remote planet inhabited entirely by anthropomorphic animal people known as Kemo. These beastkin have a fully developed civilization with government and social structures, and within their culture there exists a mythological concept: the Hito, a creature rumored to be hairless except for the top of the head, bipedal, and utterly alien. Kemo who become fascinated with these legends are called Hitoners, a term that mirrors the real-world Japanese word for furry enthusiasts. When Hitoshi arrives, the myths suddenly become real, and Kemo society is thrown into upheaval. The government quickly takes Hitoshi into custody for study and observation. The story unfolds as a slice-of-life science fiction comedy centered on the efforts of the Kemo to understand one utterly ordinary human doing everyday things. Communication is a challenge: the Kemo lack the vocal anatomy to produce human speech sounds, so Hitoshi and the locals rely on written messages. Among the key figures are Tonelico, a cat-type Kemo whose warm reactions to Hitoshi drive much of the series’ charm, and Director Laon, a skeptical official who resists revealing Hitoshi’s existence to the public. The tension between scientific fascination and containment gives the narrative a subtle backbone beneath its lighthearted surface. The series explores interspecies exchange as Kemo society slowly transforms through its encounter with an actual human, blurring the lines between myth and reality.
