Description
Ayano is a young woman who lives almost entirely inside the world of books, paying so little attention to reality that her mother becomes concerned. To help her daughter reconnect with the real world, she sends Ayano to work as an assistant for Noumi Takayuki, a one-time novelist who has abandoned writing to run a consulting detective agency. Ayano's duties involve managing Takayuki's personal affairs and organizing his workspace, but soon after she begins, strange incidents start to unfold around the pair. As they work together to solve mysteries brought to Takayuki by various clients, the cases force Ayano to engage with people, emotions, and the tangible consequences of real events in a way that her fictional worlds never did. At the same time, Takayuki carries his own inner sorrows, a quiet burden that hints at the reasons he stopped writing and now devotes himself to unraveling the puzzles of others. The story weaves together episodic detective work with the gradual development of a bond between the distracted book lover and the haunted former author, as each case becomes an opportunity for Ayano to find a reason to love the world outside the page and for Takayuki to confront the wounds that drove him from his craft. The manga is a josei mystery romance set in an everyday urban environment, with the atmospheric detachment of a detective office contrasting against Ayano's growing curiosity about both the mysteries and the man she works for. Notable narrative arcs build around key cases that test Ayano's ability to read not just books but people, and around Takayuki's slow opening up about his past, with the final arc drawing the two characters into a personal mystery that ties directly to his abandonment of writing and her reason for staying by his side.
