The story follows Yuuichi Aizawa, a high school student who returns to a snow-covered town he last visited seven years earlier, after his parents are posted overseas. He moves in with his aunt and his cousin, Nayuki Minase, but finds he cannot recall most of his childhood memories of the place. As he settles into his new school, he encounters several young women who each seem connected to his forgotten past: Ayu Tsukimiya, a cheerful girl who loves taiyaki and carries a distinctive backpack; Mai Kawasumi, a quiet upperclassman who hunts invisible presences in the school at night; Makoto Sawatari, a spirited girl with no clear memories of her own identity; and Shiori Misaka, a frail classmate who hides a serious illness.
