In nineteenth-century London, deep in the grimy East End, a band of misfits known as the Hooligans operates under the leadership of Lee Heartrib, an alchemist and the current head of the Antilia Family mafia. Lee inherited guardianship of the city from his predecessor and uses his alchemical abilities to keep the local junkies content, but his deeper ambition is to forge a genuine paradise for the common people. Achieving that goal often requires bloody work: Lee and his crew—a motley collection of a mafioso, a bespectacled youth, a lolita, a ninja, and other alchemists—must clash with rival mafia bosses and confront shadowy, otherworldly beings bent on exterminating all human life. The story weaves mafia power struggles with supernatural threats, exploring how far Lee will go to build his utopia while defending the city from both organized crime and cosmic horrors.
