Description
A 43-year-old office worker named Tomakomai endures relentless power harassment from his company president. One day, the president forces him into a transformation, and he becomes a magical girl: an undying monster. Unable to return to human form or to his former life, he has nowhere to go. He is taken to a settlement known as the magical girl village, an illegally occupied community where others like him live. The village is home to residents such as Nemuro, a perpetually cheerful magical girl whose age she herself no longer remembers, and Seikou, the village chief, who is never without alcohol and has long since stopped counting her years. The settlement is a place defined not by whimsy or heroism but by squalor, dark humor, and an undercurrent of hopelessness.
Tomakomai must adapt to life among these bizarre and often dangerous neighbors, who include figures like Kushiro, a former ramen-shop worker with intense loyalty to Seikou, and a rotating cast of other magical girls named after locations in Hokkaido. The story unfolds as a series of absurdist episodes that blend gag comedy with bleak social satire. The narrative explores themes of forced transformation, the loss of humanity, immortality as a curse, and the absurdity of trying to find community in a space built on desperation. Later arcs introduce the Anti-Magic Agency and an agent named Kanagawa, who comes to the village on official business, further complicating the residents’ precarious existence.
