Description
A young rookie lawyer named Aki Higa carries the words of her late father—a former attorney—close to her heart: "Honest people cannot be deceived, so be more honest than anyone else." She works diligently at a major law firm and is assigned her first independent case: a lawsuit filed by Next Prism, a massive IT conglomerate. Despite thorough preparation, she discovers that the opposing counsel is Wataru Yagi, a lawyer with a notorious past as a convicted con artist. Yagi seems to have known Aki for years, and his unorthodox, deceptive tactics lead to her defeat in court, costing her the case and her job.
After being dismissed from her firm, Aki finds herself adrift until Yagi unexpectedly extends a hand, offering her a position at his practice. Reluctantly, she accepts, and the two form an unlikely partnership. Yagi’s street-smart, morally flexible approach clashes with Aki’s earnest, by-the-book idealism, yet together they take on a wide range of modern legal disputes: social media defamation, false workplace harassment claims, copyright battles over video games, overwork-related deaths, and a looming threat from the Next Prism corporation. As they navigate these cases, Aki gradually uncovers a deeper, more personal mystery—one that ties Yagi’s past and the secrets of Next Prism to the circumstances surrounding her father’s death. The series balances courtroom drama with a growing conspiracy, pitting a straight-laced attorney against a former swindler in a legal world where the line between right and wrong is never clear.
