Description
In a shrinking fashion market where sales equate to survival, Tanaka Sorato, a 29-year-old merchandiser at the mid-tier apparel brand Mishiro, is suddenly ordered to launch an entirely new menswear line from scratch. Sorato has spent eight years handling women’s clothing and feels a vague restlessness; he lives frugally and devotes his spare income to his personal wardrobe, but the new mission is a corporate gamble that could make or break the company. The story plunges into the gritty, behind-the-scenes realities of the fashion industry—fabric sourcing, production schedules, pricing battles, and the constant pressure of sales targets. Sorato must recruit a designer from within the company (his similarly fashion-obsessed colleague Kiyohito), navigate internal resistance, and compete against the dominant low-cost giant Annoy, which threatens to swamp the market. Key narrative arcs include the first seasonal debut of Mishiro Men, the struggle to secure production partners, a price negotiation showdown at a trade show, and a promotional event called the Knit Run in the knitting hub of Niigata. Along the way, Sorato builds a small team that includes a veteran pattern maker and gains support from a university senior working at a trading company. The manga balances technical industry details with personal stakes: Sorato’s growth from a competent but directionless employee into a driven brand leader, the camaraderie and friction among coworkers, and the small victories of seeing a customer genuinely enjoy something the team made. The series is an ongoing work that foregrounds the clash between creative passion and ruthless commerce, all set against the backdrop of modern Japan’s apparel battlefield.
