Description
In a world of swords, magic, and reverence for a goddess, Lyell Walt was born as the eldest son and heir of the Walt earldom. Once hailed as a prodigy and wonder child, his standing crumbled after the birth of his younger sister, Ceres. As Ceres grew, she effortlessly surpassed him in every skill, and his parents gradually shifted their favor and attention toward her. On his fifteenth birthday, Ceres challenged Lyell to a duel to decide the rightful heir. Overwhelmed by her superior strength and talent, Lyell suffered a humiliating defeat. His parents disowned him, stripped him of his inheritance, and cast him out of the family estate.
Badly wounded and utterly broken, Lyell was rescued by an old man who had long dwelled in the estate’s gardens. The man entrusted him with a blue jewel set into a necklace—a treasure known as the Walt heirloom, passed down through seven generations of family heads. The jewel contained not only the unique skills, or Arts, of each former leader, but also their preserved memories and living personalities. When Lyell activated the gem, the seven ancestors materialized before him as phantom guides.
Far from being a harmonious council of wise mentors, the ancestors are a chaotic and opinionated group. The first generation is a rough, battle-hardened brute; the second a scheming tactician; the third a stern and critical warrior; the fourth an elegant but sharp-tongued noblewoman; the fifth a cunning explorer; the sixth a calm and calculating mage; and the seventh—the most recent—a pragmatic leader with modern sensibilities. They bicker among themselves, hurl insults at Lyell for his weakness, and offer contradictory advice, forcing him to navigate their conflicting personalities to benefit from their knowledge.
Armed with the necklace, Lyell left his family home and set out to make his own way as an adventurer. He traveled to the guild town where he registered as a novice, taking on humble jobs like cleaning ditches and slaying slimes. Despite his noble upbringing, he lacked practical combat experience and struggled to prove himself. Under the grudging tutelage of the veteran adventurer Zelfie, and with intermittent, sarcastic input from his ancestors, Lyell began to grow stronger and more resourceful.
Along the way, Lyell gathered a party of loyal companions. Novem Forxuz, a childhood friend and noblewoman, remained devoted to him and managed much of his affairs. Aria Lockwarde, a beautiful swordsman, became a close ally after Lyell devised a plan to rescue her from a bandit stronghold. Shannon Circy, a young mage, and later Clara, a priestess, also joined his circle. These relationships, often tinged with romantic tension, formed the core of his support network as he worked to raise his standing and uncover the truth behind his family’s fall.
A major early arc involved the rescue of Aria from a bandit group led by the chieftain Boraz. Lyell feigned arrogance to bait the bandits into a trap, leading a disjointed volunteer army of two hundred men. Though his plans were leaked by spies, Lyell used his ancestors’ strategic advice to stage a night ambush on the bandits’ hideout, ultimately facing Boraz in single combat using borrowed Arts from the jewel. The victory earned him respect and solidified his bond with Aria.
Subsequent arcs saw Lyell entangled in territorial disputes between local lords. While traveling with his growing party, he arrived at a troubled village and became caught in a conflict over land rights. Forced to mediate and fight, he demonstrated increasing political acumen and martial skill, slowly shedding his former naivete.
Throughout his journey, Lyell wrestles with a deeper mystery: why is Ceres so overwhelmingly powerful, and what unnatural influence does she hold over their parents and household? The ancestors, who witnessed fragments of past family secrets, offer clues that hint at something dark surrounding Ceres’s rise. Lyell’s ultimate goal remains to reclaim his name and uncover the truth behind the ill fortune that befell him, all while navigating the absurdity of seven dead relatives constantly shouting advice inside his head.
