Sixteen-year-old high school girl Yonagi Fuji feels suffocated by school life and struggles to fit in with her classmates. Her only solace is sleeping overnight in the family car parked in the backyard, a habit born from cherished memories of traveling across Japan with her late father, a landscape photographer. Since she does not have a driver’s license, she is confined to the stationary car in the yard and dreams of one day being able to sleep in her car wherever she pleases.

One night, a cheerful and outgoing classmate named Ichinose Asahi mistakes Fuji's car for being on fire and rushes in. Asahi, who actually repeated a year due to illness and is a year older, already has a driver’s license. Fascinated by Fuji’s hobby, Asahi offers to drive, and the two begin taking trips together to various locations for car camping. Through these outings, Fuji slowly opens up and her once-monotonous, lonely days gain color and excitement.

As their friendship deepens, the pair visits an auto campsite and meets other car-camping enthusiasts, further broadening Fuji’s world. The story follows their gentle, slice-of-life journeys, weaving in practical car-camping tips and recipes for simple outdoor meals. Each trip becomes an opportunity for Fuji to confront her grief over her father’s death and for Asahi to move forward from her own past struggles, as the two girls build a bond rooted in shared freedom and the open road.
