Manga
Description
At Nansei Bus, long-distance buses are operated by two-person driving teams. Jin, a former host with an outgoing and empathetic nature, is paired with Naruse, a cool and laid-back younger driver. The two clash from the start, as their contrasting personalities create friction. Each day, the bus carries passengers carrying their own private struggles—a woman with a hidden past, a young girl traveling alone to meet someone in Tokyo, an elderly woman lost in Shinjuku, and a former actress seeking a fresh start. Despite their differences, Jin and Naruse find themselves working together to handle these passengers, solving problems that arise during the journey and gradually learning to understand each other.

The story unfolds across the routes of Nansei Bus, particularly between Toyama and Shinjuku, with stops at service areas and depots along the way. Episodes highlight small, resonant moments in everyday life: a rest stop where a vendor remembers Naruse from a previous encounter, a late-night search for a missing passenger, and the quiet conversations in shared lodging after a shift. As their partnership deepens, Naruse starts showing more warmth toward Jin, while Jin’s own background comes into focus. His past as a host and his relationship with his foster mother, Manami—whom he met as a child and later lost touch with—becomes a central thread. Naruse’s younger sister also appears, bringing new dynamics.

Over the course of the series, the pair faces a range of challenges, including a potential transfer that would separate them. The final volume resolves the lingering mystery of Manami’s departure from Jin’s life, revealing the truth of their bond and allowing both characters to move forward. Through each journey and each passenger, the manga quietly explores themes of connection, second chances, and the meaning of coming home.
