Description
Koume, a young woman with a sweet smile and a hidden wild streak, starts work as a designer at Caramel Ribbon, a novelty gift company in Osaka. Her drawing style is cheerfully bizarre, and she keeps submitting mascot concepts like Mr. Transvestite, Drowned Corpse-chan, and Konnyaku-chan, all of which are rejected by her baffled colleagues. Her boss is a teddy bear-obsessed man with a pompadour and a rumored fondness for men. Her coworker Kimi is a former girl-gang member who still acts tough and often scares off Nakatani, the quiet male designer who has a hopeless crush on her. Kimi’s boyfriend Shou is an ex-delinquent who keeps getting arrested for petty crimes. Koume’s own family life is just as chaotic: her free-spending mother blows Koume’s salary and bonus without asking, then remarries a man who brings along two otaku stepsisters, one a doujin artist and the other a cosplayer. The story follows Koume and her eccentric coworkers through the daily absurdities of office life in Osaka, from company trips to Hong Kong and Nagasaki to run-ins with neighbors like a companion-dispatch agency on the same floor. The humor is fast-paced and rooted in Osaka-style banter, with Koume’s innocent appearance constantly belying her delinquent past and her unfiltered reactions. The manga builds a slice-of-life comedy out of failed product pitches, office romances, and the perpetual struggle to get a single design approved.
