Approaching thirty and eight years into her office-lady career, Shizuka lives with her parents and her younger sister Ikumi, a university student, showing no intention of getting married. Her mother, a full-time housewife, has been saving up for Shizuka's wedding but grows increasingly exasperated by her eldest daughter's complete lack of interest in finding a spouse. Her father, a local civil servant, is the only man in a female-dominated household and often feels marginalized by the women around him, his smoking habit and athlete's foot earning him further disapproval from Ikumi. Two female cats, Joe and Bess, complete the family circle. The story unfolds as a gentle four-panel comedy following the mundane yet amusing everyday incidents of this family, with Shizuka's hobbies of video games and secretly creating doujinshi for Comic Market, her hay fever in spring, and her habit of rolling used tissues into toys for the cat Joe, all contributing to the relaxed, slice-of-life atmosphere.
