Description
Running is not merely a competition for Kenji and Ryuji, two long-distance runners whose lives are bound together by grief, desire, and an unresolved past. The story revolves around Kenji, who is haunted by the memory of his deceased friend Aihara, with whom he shared a brief homosexual affair before Aihara's death. Kenji now dates Kyoko, who was once Aihara's girlfriend, but the relationship is hollow; Kyoko's feelings for Kenji are stronger than his for her, while Kenji remains emotionally locked in the past. Ryuji, Kenji's friend and rival on the track, is pursuing Shoko, a hurdler, but her attention is fixed on Kenji instead. The 800-meter race, two laps around the track, becomes a physical and emotional crucible where each character confronts love, loss, rivalry, and the reasons they run. The setting is rooted in the world of high school or collegiate track and field, where personal histories and unspoken tensions play out during training and meets. The narrative arcs intertwine the characters' romantic entanglements with their athletic ambitions, exploring how unresolved grief and hidden desires affect performance and relationships on and off the track.
