Manga
Description
After graduating from high school, Ako Takamine, a young woodworking artisan from Saitama, moves to the remote island of Aogashima in the Izu Islands at her mother's suggestion. Expecting a relaxing tropical life, she quickly finds the reality far harsher: her new house is dilapidated, a storm shatters a window on her first day, supplies are delayed by rough seas, and she faces an infestation of millipedes. Ako's skills as a woodworker are not enough to sustain her, so she takes on part-time work at a local inn called Kaisei Maru, run by the family of Manabu Sasaki, a young man who helps her adjust to island life. Another transplant, Sakura Kindaichi, juggles multiple side jobs and becomes a friend. Despite the hardships, Ako gradually learns to appreciate the island's beauty and tight-knit community. Later, she meets Manabu's younger sister Tsubaki, a teenager in the throes of adolescence, and they form an unlikely but effective partnership. The story follows Ako's journey of self-reliance, friendship, and finding her place in Japan's least populous municipality, blending everyday struggles with gentle humor and warmth. Narrative arcs include her initial culture shock and survival challenges, building relationships with the islanders, and the deepening bond with the Sasaki siblings, culminating in a heartfelt conclusion as she fully embraces her new home.
